POLICE STATION KOT MITHAN

(Research & Written in Urdu by: Prof. Dr. Shakil Pitafi)

(Translated into English by: Prof. Arshad Bukhari)

Police Station in Kot Mithan was established in 1875. The construction of the building also started that very year. The building was completed in 1876. The Police Station is still working in that building which is situated near Bus Stand. The Gazetteer of the Dera Ghazi Khan District 1883-84 also mentions this police station. It clearly shows how old it is.

Initially the police station Kot Mithan had a small jurisdiction. With the increase in population, its jurisdiction also extended. At present, its jurisdiction extends up to 46 villages. Apart from the urban population, mostly Jatoi, Gopang, Darishak, Balhora, Syed, Arain, Jam, Machhi, Lashari and Mashori tribes are living in its jurisdiction. In its geographical position, the police station Kot Mithan has borders with police station Rajanpur in its south, police station Rojhan in its south and police station Umar Kot in its west. In the east, its borders touch police station Zahir Pir and Rukan Pur (Dist: Rahimyar Khan) and police station Kandwai (Dist: Muzaffar Garh) across the Indus.

According to the demarcation carried out in 1949, total area of Police Station Kot Mithan is 1 Kanal and 10 Marlas. An adjoining plot measuring 1 Kanal and 11 Marlas is also under its possession. The total area of the Mauzas falling in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kot Mithan is 125170/ acres.

As the area is situated along the Indus, the criminals are mostly involved in the theft of cattle. Most of the criminals committing their crimes in this area are mostly the residents of police station Zahir Pir, Rukan Pur, Rojhan and Umar Kot. In addition to thefts, other serious crimes involving murder, looting and kidnap have also occurred in the jurisdiction of Police Station Kot Mithan. During Martial Law and military regimes the rate of crimes appears much reduced as compared to other periods when there were civilian governments in the country. Some of the leading police officers/officials of Kot Mithan who have rendered remarkable services during their career are: Inspector Manzoor Ahmad Hashmi, Sub Inspector Noor Mohammad Pitafi, Sub Inspector Khurshid Ahmad Wains, Mumtaz Ahmad, Ghulam Nazik, Ghulam Sarwar Wains, Mohmammad Shafi Wains, Ghulma Shabbir Wains and Saleh Mohammad. At present, countless young and educated police officials, most of them constables, are serving across the district. Many have sustained martyrdom during active duty and have etched their name permanently in the temple of fame.
